This garden, near Birmingham in England, was built for a private client. The property is a retirement home for the owner and consequently the theme of 'The Islands Of The Immortals' was taken as the starting point for the design. This theme is a very old story that is the basis of many Japanese gardens. The brief specified no water so gravel was used to represent the seas between the islands. The client also requested some colour in all the seasons as part of the planting scheme. Later a copper lantern was commissioned for the porch area. The six sided design shows images from the 4 seasons in pierced work and stained glass. The lantern sways gently on a long chain.
